Aisha Yesufu Explains Why She Voted APC in 2015

Aisha Yesufu, a chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, has explained why she supported the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 presidential election, saying she has no regrets about her decision.

Yesufu said her decision was mainly influenced by the choice of Yemi Osinbajo as the party’s vice presidential candidate rather than Muhammadu Buhari, who was the APC presidential candidate at the time.

She made the disclosure during a recent interview with the Kaa Truth podcast.

According to Yesufu, she believed Osinbajo would have an important role in managing the country’s economy if the APC won the election. She said reports at the time suggested that Buhari would delegate key responsibilities to his deputy.

Yesufu explained that Buhari’s record as a former military head of state also influenced her understanding of how he could operate in government. She recalled that during his military administration, Tunde Idiagbon handled many of the responsibilities of government.

She said her support for the APC ticket was therefore based largely on her expectation that Osinbajo would take charge of important economic matters.

Yesufu also attributed Buhari’s acceptance among voters in 2015 partly to dissatisfaction with the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

She said she did not regret voting for the APC ticket because regretting the decision would not change the outcome and could create the impression that an alternative choice would necessarily have produced a better result.

Her comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Yesufu now associated with the NDC.
