Nwifuru Threatens to Sack Ebonyi Chairmen if APC Loses LGAs

Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has warned the newly elected chairmen of the state’s 13 local government areas that they could lose their positions if the All Progressives Congress fails to win their respective councils in the 2027 elections.

Nwifuru issued the warning on Tuesday in Abakaliki while inaugurating the new chairmen and vice-chairmen.

The governor said the council chairmen would be responsible for the performance of the APC in their various local government areas. He directed them to mobilise voters and work towards securing total victory for the party in the 2027 election.

Nwifuru said any chairman whose council failed to deliver victory for the APC would be removed and replaced by a councillor. He also warned that failure to actively mobilise support for the party could cost the chairmen their positions.

The governor urged the council officials to prevent opposition parties from gaining political ground in their areas, saying their efforts should begin from their immediate communities.

He also advised the chairmen to maintain good working relationships with their deputies and avoid disagreements that could affect the administration of their councils.

Addressing the vice-chairmen, Nwifuru urged them to support the chairmen while remaining prepared to take over their responsibilities when necessary. He warned them against allowing friends or political associates to create conflicts between them and their principals.

The governor used the political career of his deputy as an example of how effective performance at the local government level could create opportunities for higher office.

Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated chairmen, Afikpo Local Government chairman Timothy Nwachi thanked Nwifuru and other APC leaders for the opportunity to serve. He pledged that the council chairmen would work to justify the confidence placed in them and secure a strong victory for the APC in 2027.

The newly inaugurated officials include Osborne Umahi, son of Works Minister David Umahi, and Chidi Nwode, who is related to the governor through his wife.
