Wike Vows to Stop Atiku From Defeating Tinubu in Rivers, FCT

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to work against any attempt by the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Wike said he would not remain passive while Atiku seeks to secure victory in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, which he described as areas where he has strong political influence.

The former Rivers State governor made the statement on Wednesday while speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt.

He said his political influence was not dependent on holding the office of governor, insisting that he remained in control of the political structure in Rivers State.

Wike also said he considered the FCT an important part of the electoral battle and maintained that he had a responsibility to deliver both Rivers and the capital territory for Tinubu.

The minister explained that his recent return to Rivers was not solely for political activities. He said he also came home to reconnect with his people, assess developments in the state and visit his elderly parents.

However, Wike acknowledged that the period was politically important ahead of the 2027 general election. He made it clear that he would actively mobilise support for Tinubu rather than allow Atiku to gain an advantage in Rivers or the FCT.

His comments come amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition parties and political figures intensifying efforts to challenge Tinubu’s bid for another term.
