Gunmen have killed the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Ishaq Yunusa, and abducted another person travelling with him.

The attack occurred on Thursday at about 5pm along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway, near Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.

The assailants reportedly emerged from the surrounding bush and opened fire on vehicles using the highway before fleeing into the area.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Saliu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists in Lokoja on Friday.
According to the police, a blue Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 636 CH was later discovered abandoned along the road. Yunusa, who was driving the vehicle, was found dead inside, while another occupant had been taken into the bush by the attackers.
The police said the deceased was evacuated to Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for an autopsy, while security personnel launched operations to locate the abducted victim and arrest those responsible for the attack.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, ordered sustained security operations along the affected route and directed officers to pursue all available leads to bring the perpetrators to justice. The command also urged residents and motorists in the area to remain alert and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
