Ekiti PDP Rejects Makinde’s APM Bid, Denies Mobilisation

The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports that it is mobilising support across the state for the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The party said the report was false and did not represent the position of its recognised leadership in Ekiti State.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti by the state PDP chairman, Lanre Omolase, the party said it had no involvement in any mobilisation exercise linked to Makinde or the APM ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Omolase described the report as an unauthorised publication allegedly intended to cause confusion within the party and create the impression that the Ekiti PDP had endorsed Makinde’s presidential ambition.

The chairman said the party had not approved, launched or participated in any grassroots mobilisation campaign for the Oyo governor.

He stated that the Ekiti PDP had completely distanced itself from both the APM and any political project promoting Makinde’s presidential bid.

The party chairman also criticised Makinde’s political record, accusing the governor of repeatedly acting in ways that the Ekiti PDP considers disloyal to the party.

According to Omolase, the Ekiti chapter would not support what it described as political betrayal and would not associate itself with a candidate or movement it believes represents such conduct.

The PDP leadership urged its members and supporters across Ekiti State to disregard the report and avoid acting on political claims that have not been authorised by the recognised leadership of the party.

The party also warned individuals and groups against using its name, structures or authority to promote personal political interests without approval from the appropriate organs.

Omolase said the Ekiti PDP remained committed to internal discipline and due process, stressing that only authorised party officials and organs could issue statements on behalf of the chapter.

The development comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians and political groups across the country positioning themselves ahead of the presidential contest.

Makinde has emerged as one of the prominent figures linked to opposition political realignments ahead of the election, while reports of possible alliances and movements involving different parties have continued to generate reactions.

The Ekiti PDP leadership said media organisations and members of the public should verify political claims with authorised party officials before attributing positions to the chapter.

The party maintained that no official decision had been taken by its Ekiti leadership to support Makinde’s presidential ambition or work with the APM.
