Obi Launches Obidient Connect Campaign, Seeks Donations for 2027

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has launched a new campaign platform known as Obidient Connect as he begins efforts to build support for his 2027 presidential bid.

The platform is designed to bring together Obi’s supporters in Nigeria and abroad and organise them around the 2027 election. It will also provide a channel through which supporters can contribute financially to his campaign.

Obi introduced the platform in a campaign message urging Nigerians to register with Obidient Connect and take part in the movement ahead of the election.

The former Anambra State governor said the platform would help supporters organise their activities from the polling unit level to the ward level. The initiative is expected to give the movement a more organised structure as the election approaches.

Obidient Connect is also expected to help supporters coordinate campaign activities, encourage voter participation and work towards ensuring that votes are properly protected during the election.

The platform is being promoted as a citizen-led political and civic engagement initiative aimed at connecting supporters across different parts of Nigeria and the diaspora.

Supporters of Obi have been active through the Obidient Movement, which became a major political support base during the 2023 presidential election. The new platform is expected to provide a more structured system for coordinating the movement ahead of the 2027 contest.

Pat Utomi and Tanko Yunusa are among those associated with the initiative. Yunusa serves as the national coordinator of the Obidient Movement.

The campaign organisation said Obidient Connect would allow Nigerians at home and abroad to participate in the political process by organising around polling units and helping to protect votes.

The platform also includes a donation system through which supporters can contribute to Obi’s presidential campaign. The fundraising effort is open to both Nigerians in the country and members of the diaspora who wish to support his political ambition.

The donation options begin from $10, with supporters also able to contribute $25, $50, $100, $250, $500 or any other amount they choose.

The minimum contribution of $10 is about N13,000 based on the exchange rate stated in the campaign material.

The launch comes as political parties and presidential aspirants begin to strengthen their structures ahead of the 2027 general elections. Campaign organisations are increasingly turning to digital platforms to register supporters, raise funds and coordinate activities across different locations.

For Obi, Obidient Connect is expected to serve as a central platform for organising his supporters and expanding his political network ahead of the presidential contest.

The initiative will also seek to maintain the involvement of Nigerians living outside the country, who have remained an active part of the Obidient support base.

Through the platform, supporters are expected to participate in voter mobilisation, campaign activities and efforts aimed at monitoring the electoral process.

Obi is seeking another opportunity to contest for the presidency after finishing third in the 2023 presidential election. He is now preparing for the 2027 contest under the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

The launch of Obidient Connect signals the beginning of a fresh mobilisation effort as Obi seeks to turn the support around his political movement into a more organised nationwide campaign ahead of the election.
