Davido Rejects Adeleke’s Support for Tinubu

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has disagreed with his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, over the governor’s decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.

Davido criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the party as ruthless and accusing its supporters of involvement in violence during the recently concluded Osun governorship election.

The singer alleged that several people were killed in incidents linked to the election and said the violence targeted members and supporters of the Accord Party, which was the platform on which Governor Adeleke contested the poll.

Davido made the remarks on Sunday while responding to a post by an APC supporter who reaffirmed support for the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, despite his defeat.

The singer said he would not support the APC, adding that he had supported his family during the election without relying on outside assistance.

He also expressed frustration with Nigerian politics, saying the events surrounding the Osun election had made him unwilling to participate in political activities until conditions improved.

The comments came shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Governor Adeleke the winner of the August 15 governorship election, securing a second four-year term after defeating Oyebamiji.

Despite Davido’s position, Adeleke has maintained his support for President Tinubu and renewed his endorsement of the President for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking after his victory was declared, the governor thanked Tinubu for what he described as his support for a free and fair election in Osun.

Adeleke said he regarded Tinubu as a son of Osun and reaffirmed his earlier decision to support the President’s bid for another term.

Davido subsequently appeared to distance himself from the governor’s position, telling his followers that he would no longer support any presidential candidate and suggesting that his message was directed at his uncle.

The disagreement has drawn attention because of the close family relationship between the singer and the governor, who has also featured prominently in Davido’s political activities during the Osun election.
