The aide confirmed the development without giving details of the reasons behind the Speaker’s decision to step down.

“EDO ASSEMBLY SPEAKER RT HON CHIEF BLESSING AGBEBAKU RESIGNS,” she wrote.

Agbebaku’s resignation comes as the Edo State House of Assembly faces fresh internal tensions, with some lawmakers reportedly pushing for his removal before he voluntarily stepped down.

The development is expected to trigger a leadership process within the legislature as lawmakers move to select a replacement for the former Speaker.

The circumstances surrounding Agbebaku’s resignation remain unclear, while further details are expected from his office and the Edo State House of Assembly.

His exit has opened another chapter in the leadership crisis within the state legislature, with attention now shifting to the lawmakers’ next move and the choice of a new Speaker.
