Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has dismissed reports claiming he resigned from office, describing the story as false and warning that those responsible would face legal action.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Musa said he was surprised to learn about the reports and insisted that he had never discussed leaving his position with anyone.

The minister said he remains fully committed to his duties and has no intention of stepping down. He added that legal steps would be taken to identify those behind the false reports and hold them accountable.
Musa arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 3:00 p.m. and left shortly after 4:00 p.m., while rumours about his alleged resignation continued to circulate.
Addressing the speculation after the meeting, he maintained that there had been no discussion about his resignation. He claimed the reports were being spread by people unhappy with the progress recorded in the country’s security operations.
According to him, those responsible for circulating the story would be identified and made to explain the source of the false information through the legal process.
The Defence Minister said he believed the rumours were intended to weaken public confidence in the government’s efforts to improve security across the country.

He explained that although he was shocked by the reports, he was not surprised that some individuals would attempt to discredit the administration at a time when security conditions were gradually improving.
Musa stated that the meeting with President Tinubu was a routine security briefing during which he updated the President on the current security situation across the country.
He disclosed that the President expressed satisfaction with the military’s ongoing operations and encouraged the security agencies to continue their efforts.
The minister also appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the armed forces and other security agencies, saying the fight against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes requires cooperation from all members of society.
He thanked citizens for the support they have given the military, noting that public cooperation has contributed to recent progress in security operations. He expressed confidence that the situation would continue to improve with sustained collaboration between security agencies and the public.
Musa was appointed Minister of Defence by President Bola Tinubu on December 2, 2025. Before his appointment, he served as Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff from July 2023.
