A 60-year-old headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, Matthew Kolawale Owoade, popularly known as “Onaiye”, has been abducted by suspected gunmen.

The incident reportedly happened on Saturday evening, July 11, 2026, between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., while the victim was returning home.

According to his son, Abiola Owoade, the headmaster had gone to visit his farm before he was intercepted and taken away by the armed men on his way back.

The abductors later contacted the family through the victim’s mobile phone and demanded a ransom of N30 million before they would release him.
On Sunday morning, July 12, 2026, at about 8:20 a.m., a search party discovered the victim’s motorcycle abandoned inside a bush, raising fresh concerns about his safety.

The abduction has caused anxiety among members of his family, colleagues and residents within the Itesiwaju Local Government Area, especially those in the education sector.
They have appealed to the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies to act quickly to rescue the headmaster and ensure his safe release.
The family also appealed to members of the public to share any useful information that could help security agencies locate and rescue the victim.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the victim was abducted while at his farm in Budo Aare.
He added that security operatives have launched efforts to rescue the victim safely and track down those responsible for the abduction.
