The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, bail in the sum of N20 million after he pleaded not guilty to a six-count charge of alleged certificate forgery brought against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The anti-graft agency accused the former minister of falsifying his academic records, including a degree certificate said to have been issued by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

The commission also alleged that Nnaji submitted a fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate during his ministerial screening in 2023.

Nnaji, who served in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet from August 16, 2023, until his resignation on October 6, 2025, denied all the allegations after the charges were read before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.
Following a bail application filed by his lawyer, Chief James Onoja (SAN), the court admitted the former minister to bail in the sum of N20 million with one surety in the same amount.

The court ruled that the surety must be a civil servant residing in Abuja and must not be below Grade Level 15.
Justice Abdulmalik also directed the surety to submit an affidavit of means.
In addition, the court ordered Nnaji to surrender his international passport and barred him from travelling outside Nigeria without the court’s approval.
The judge fixed July 21 as the date for the commencement of trial in the case.
The former minister was arrested by security operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on July 1 after returning to the Federal Capital Territory.
The ICPC had earlier confirmed that the arrest was carried out to aid its investigation into the allegations against him.
