Police Confirm Abduction of Lafia University Students

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three students of the Federal University of Lafia and launched an operation to rescue the victims and arrest those responsible.

The incident followed a distress call from the university’s Chief Security Officer, who reported that the students were abducted on Tuesday at about 9:20 p.m.

According to the report, the victims were living at Living Seed Lodge, a hostel located in a bushy area on the outskirts of the students’ residential community in Lafia.

The police said one of the abducted students has already been rescued, while efforts are continuing to secure the release of the remaining two victims.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Rahman Nansel, said the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately ordered the deployment of tactical teams, patrol officers and other security personnel after receiving the report.

The security operatives quickly moved into the area and began a coordinated search-and-rescue operation in the surrounding forest.

The command said the swift response by its personnel led to the successful rescue of one of the students. It added that security operatives have stepped up efforts to free the remaining captives and apprehend the suspected kidnappers.

The commissioner of police also directed all operational and intelligence units of the command to continue the rescue operation until the remaining students are safely reunited with their families.

He assured residents that the police would continue working tirelessly to ensure those behind the crime are brought to justice.

The police appealed to members of the public to remain calm, stay alert and support security agencies by providing useful information that could assist the ongoing operation.

Residents were also advised to report any suspicious movement or activities to the nearest police station without delay.
