He made the remark during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday.
Dickson said the proposal is too important to be rushed because it will have a lasting effect on Nigeria’s security and governance.
He believes more consultations are needed before such a major reform is approved.
According to him, allowing the next government to decide the issue would give room for wider agreement among political leaders and other stakeholders.
He said any decision should put the country’s long-term interest first.
The former Bayelsa State governor also discussed the country’s security challenges and the legal issues involving the NDC.
He expressed confidence that the party would overcome its court case and remain active ahead of the 2027 elections.
