Makarfi made the call during a media chat in Kaduna on Sunday, where he also warned against any attempt to deregister political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that all parties that meet electoral requirements should be allowed to participate.

He noted that while Nigeria’s continuous democratic rule since 1999 remains an achievement, insecurity and economic hardship are weakening the gains of democracy.

He added that tackling security challenges should be the top priority of government, as other areas of development depend on it.

The former PDP national chairman also called for stronger cooperation among federal, state and local authorities in addressing insecurity.

He urged political leaders to avoid politicising security matters and pushed for reconciliation within the PDP, while expressing confidence in the party’s future and saying he is not interested in returning to elective office.
