Window Of Surrender Will Not Be Open Forever – Tinubu To Bandits

President Bola Tinubu has warned bandits, kidnappers and their sponsors that the government’s offer of surrender and reintegration will not remain open indefinitely.

He said those who continue violent attacks will face full legal consequences under the law. The warning came during his Democracy Day address in Abuja.

He stressed that national security operations will continue without pause.
Tinubu said security forces have moved from routine training with foreign partners to targeted operations against terrorist groups.
He stated that recent military actions have weakened ISWAP and destroyed several command centres.

According to him, terror-related deaths have reduced sharply since 2015, while thousands of fighters have been neutralised in the past year. He credited these results to ongoing military pressure.
The President also said the government continues to offer surrender opportunities for militants willing to abandon violence.
He revealed that more than 124,000 fighters and their dependents have laid down arms since 2023. Through rehabilitation programmes such as Operation Safe Corridor, former insurgents have been reintegrated into society.
He said the aim is to support peace while reducing future threats.
Despite these efforts, Tinubu warned that the patience of the state has limits. He said criminals who refuse to surrender will face decisive action from security forces.
He also urged Nigerians not to divide insecurity along ethnic lines, saying crime affects all parts of the country. He added that unity is needed to overcome ongoing security challenges and restore stability.
