The party said the decision was taken during emergency consultations following security restrictions around its chosen venue.

The convention was reportedly affected by heavy police deployment and access restrictions that stopped normal proceedings at the A-Class Event Centre.

Party leaders later shifted to an emergency meeting where they moved ahead with key decisions despite the disruption.

According to the PDP, the situation forced stakeholders to abandon full convention plans and proceed with internal consultations involving top party organs.

It said Jonathan was unanimously adopted as the party’s flag bearer after a motion was raised and supported by delegates.

The party also accused federal authorities of using state power to interfere with its activities, warning that such actions could weaken democratic practice.

It called on members to stay united and confirmed that formal presentation of the ticket would take place later.
