Fubara Withdrawal From Race Was Not Forced – Yilwatda

APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has said the withdrawal of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from the party’s governorship primary was his personal decision.

He said no political pressure or external influence forced Fubara out of the race. The comment was made during a live interview on Channels Television Politics Today.

Yilwatda explained that Fubara had gone through the full nomination process before stepping down.
He noted that the governor purchased forms, attended screening and cleared the process before pulling out ahead of the primary.

According to him, the party was prepared for the election when the withdrawal happened.
The APC chairman also dismissed claims linking the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to the outcome of the Rivers governorship process.
He said Wike is not a member of the APC and has no role in its internal affairs. He added that the party strictly followed its rules throughout the exercise.
He further stated that APC guidelines require all aspirants to be financial members before contesting party positions.
The withdrawal of Fubara and another aspirant, Tonye Cole, paved the way for Kingsley Chinda to emerge as the party’s candidate.
Fubara had earlier said his decision was to support peace and stability in Rivers State.
