APC Unveils 25 Governorship Candidate
The APC unveiled governorship candidates in 25 states on Thursday as confusion and delays disrupted primaries in Kwara, Bauchi and parts of Zamfara.
Party leaders blamed the postponements on consultations aimed at ensuring a peaceful and credible process ahead of the 2027 elections.
In Kwara, tension grew after several governorship aspirants stepped down for Yahaya Seriki following late-night meetings with party leaders.
Supporters gathered across wards before the exercise was postponed, while complaints over missing materials and fears of candidate imposition created uncertainty among party members.
Bauchi also witnessed protests as supporters of governorship hopeful Nura Soro accused powerful figures within the APC of trying to influence the outcome.
In Rivers, political pressure deepened after Governor Siminalayi Fubara pulled out of the governorship race before Kingsley Chinda later emerged as the party’s candidate.
Despite the disputes, many states completed their primaries peacefully.
Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat won in Lagos, Sheriff Oborevwori secured the ticket in Delta, while Jamilu Gwamna defeated former ministers Isa Pantami and Said Alkali in a major upset in Gombe.
