APC Primaries Sparks Dispute in Rivers
Senator Ipalibo Banigo has rejected her disqualification from the All Progressives Congress screening process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She said she met all requirements and was surprised by the decision of the party’s screening committee.
The lawmaker, who previously served as deputy governor under former Rivers governor Nyesom Wike, is among several serving legislators from Rivers State affected by the APC screening outcome for upcoming elections.
Speaking to supporters during the party’s senatorial primary process, she urged calm and called on APC leadership to review the decision.
She expressed confidence that the issue would be addressed through internal party processes.
She also used the opportunity to speak on women’s representation in politics, noting the low number of female senators in the National Assembly and calling for fairer inclusion ahead of the 2027 elections.
