The Peoples Democratic Party has screened its sole presidential aspirant and several governorship hopefuls ahead of the 2027 elections, even as internal leadership disputes continue within the party.

The exercise was conducted under the National Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

The screening comes at a time of ongoing disagreement within the party despite a Supreme Court ruling earlier in the year.

Both the Mohammed-led leadership and a rival interim structure continue to operate separate plans ahead of the polls, creating parallel preparations for 2027.

The presidential screening committee, chaired by former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu, cleared the party’s only known presidential aspirant, Sandy Ojang Onor.

Onor expressed confidence in his bid, saying he entered the race to win and not participate symbolically.

For the governorship contest, aspirants from 17 states appeared before a committee led by former Kaduna State governor Ahmed Makarfi.

Participants outlined campaign priorities while also criticising some sitting governors, as internal competition within the PDP continues to build ahead of the elections.
