South West Pensioners Decry Payment Delays
Retirees across South West Nigeria have raised concerns over the late payment of their monthly pensions, saying the situation has made life increasingly difficult.
The complaints cut across different states in the region where many rely solely on pension income.
The pensioners said delays now run into weeks and sometimes months, leaving many unable to meet daily needs such as food, healthcare and transport.
Some also said they depend on relatives and small informal jobs to survive.
They called on state authorities to clear outstanding arrears and ensure regular payment schedules going forward.
According to them, prompt payment would reduce hardship and restore stability to retired workers who served the public.
The retirees further urged governments in the region to strengthen payment systems to avoid repeated delays.
They stressed that pensions should be treated as a priority to protect elderly citizens from avoidable suffering.
