Obi Criticises EFCC Hospital Raid
Peter Obi has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over its reported operation at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in Akwa Ibom State.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate reacted on Thursday through a statement shared on his verified X account.
Obi said the use of tear gas in a hospital setting was reckless and placed both patients and medical staff at risk.
He noted that while security agencies have the power to carry out arrests, such actions must not endanger lives or disrupt sensitive environments like hospitals.
Reports said EFCC operatives entered the hospital during an attempt to arrest a senior medical lecturer and used tear gas within the premises.
The incident reportedly caused panic among staff and patients, forcing some to flee for safety.
Obi warned that such operations undermine respect for human dignity and weaken trust in public institutions.
He called for greater restraint in enforcement activities, especially in places where lives depend on uninterrupted medical care.
