Fresh tension has hit the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress after Governor Siminalayi Fubara reportedly received a cold reception during the party’s governorship screening ahead of the 2027 election.

The screening held in Abuja as the APC continued assessing governors and aspirants seeking tickets for various positions.

Sources within the party said Fubara spent only a few minutes before the screening panel and left the venue looking unhappy.
The governor declined to speak with journalists after the exercise.

His appearance followed the screening of loyalists of Nyesom Wike, including former Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda and Rivers Commissioner for Works, Alabo George Kelly.
Party insiders claimed the APC leadership in Rivers currently favours Wike’s political structure, with many of the aspirants reportedly linked to the former governor.
The development has fueled speculation that the party may back a candidate loyal to Wike instead of Fubara in the 2027 governorship contest.
An aide to Fubara, however, dismissed claims of tension, insisting the governor was quickly cleared because there was little need for extensive questioning.
The APC said reports from the screening exercise would be released after the committee concludes its work.
