PDP Group Push Jonathan Forward For 2027
Fresh pressure is mounting on former President Goodluck Jonathan to enter the 2027 presidential race as groups within the Peoples Democratic Party prepare to obtain nomination forms on his behalf.
Sources within the party said the move could happen on Monday as talks over his possible return to active politics continue to grow.
Although people close to Jonathan confirmed that different groups are pushing for his candidacy, they said no final decision had been taken.
The former president is also battling a court case seeking to stop him from contesting the election.
His legal team has already asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss the suit, arguing that the issue had already been settled in earlier judgments.
During proceedings before Justice Peter Lifu, Jonathan’s lawyer said the former president only learnt about the suit through media reports and moved quickly to challenge it because of its political implications.
Despite the legal battle, speculation around Jonathan’s political future continues to rise after his recent comments while addressing young Nigerians urging him to contest.
He described the presidency as a serious responsibility and called on youths to remain patriotic, participate in elections and obtain their voter cards ahead of future polls.
