Wike Orders Clearing Of Jabi lake Area

Nyesom Wike has ordered action against undeveloped and makeshift structures around Jabi Lake, saying the area no longer fits the image of the capital. He spoke on Wednesday during a media chat in Abuja.

The move follows reactions to a viral appeal by a cleric who urged the government to protect public access to the lake.

Wike dismissed the concerns, saying decisions are based on planning laws, not emotions.

He said land meant for major projects had been left idle for years and taken over by temporary structures.
“They told us they would build something like what you see in Dubai a city walk, a proper entertainment centre. But what do you find there today? Shanties. Who will come and stay in such a place?” he said.
The minister explained that some plots have already been taken back, warning that unused land will not be held indefinitely. “For 15 years, nothing happened.
We cannot continue like that. If you are not ready to develop, we will take back the land and give it to those who are serious,” he added, stressing that the goal is proper development while keeping the lake open to the public.
