University Unions Begins Indefinite Strike
The Joint Action Committee of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions has directed members to begin an indefinite strike from May 1.
The action follows unresolved talks with the Federal Government.
The unions say the strike is due to the failure to conclude the 2009 renegotiation agreement.
They accuse authorities of delaying decisions on key issues affecting non-academic staff in universities.
The directive means workers across public universities are expected to withdraw their services until further notice.
This could disrupt administrative and support services on campuses nationwide.
The development adds to growing tension in the education sector, with pressure mounting on the government to return to the negotiating table and reach a resolution.
