Makinde Under Fire Over Alleged N2bn Spending
The Save Oyo Movement has accused Seyi Makinde of spending about N2 billion on a political summit held in Ibadan.
The allegation was made public on Sunday by the group’s coordinator, Akeem Oladiti, who called for a probe by anti-corruption agencies.
The group claimed the governor had used over N10 billion from the N30 billion reportedly received for victims of the January 2024 Ibadan explosion.
It alleged the funds were diverted towards political activities linked to a vice-presidential ambition.
SOM further alleged that N5 billion went into a failed Peoples Democratic Party convention in November 2025, while another N1.5 billion was spent on a coronation event that did not hold as planned.
It also raised concerns over the recent summit, which it said was organised to promote political interests.
The group said it would petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, insisting public funds must be properly accounted for.
It added that political ambition should not come at the expense of residents’ welfare.
