Mali Defence Minister Killed In Major Attack
Sadio Camara has been killed during coordinated attacks on military targets across Mali.
The development emerged on Sunday, a day after his residence in Kati came under heavy assault during a wave of simultaneous strikes.
The attacks followed a major offensive by Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin and Azawad Liberation Front, who targeted key security locations.
A suicide car bomb was reportedly used against the minister’s home in Kati, a military stronghold near Bamako.
Camara played a leading role in the military leadership that took power after the 2020 and 2021 coups.
His death comes amid one of the most widespread attacks seen in the country in recent years, with multiple sites hit in and around the capital.
The militant group JNIM later claimed responsibility, saying the assault also affected the international airport in Bamako and several other cities.
The attacks were said to have been carried out in coordination with Tuareg fighters, marking a fresh escalation in the conflict.
