El Rufia Faces Wiretapping Charges

On Thursday, the Department of State Services arraigned former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai at the Federal High Court in Abuja over a revised five-count charge linked to alleged unlawful interception of communications and threats to national security.

He appeared before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik and pleaded not guilty. The prosecution said the new charge replaced an earlier three-count case.

The defence accepted the substitution without objection.
The prosecution also sought to protect two witnesses by concealing their identities over safety concerns, but the defence objected, arguing it would deny the accused the right to know his accusers.
Both sides disagreed over access to evidence and the validity of the charge.
After hearing both arguments, the judge adjourned the case to May 18, 19, and 20 for hearing.
