SSANU Rejects FG’s 30% Offer

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has rejected a 30 per cent salary increase approved by the Federal Government for non-academic staff in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

The decision was announced after a meeting of the union’s leadership in Abuja.

The move has renewed tension across the education sector. It comes amid ongoing disputes over pay and working conditions.

The Federal Government approved the increase to ease long-running labour unrest and improve staff morale.

The adjustment is to be paid as a consolidated allowance for non-teaching staff. It followed years of demands by unions over wage gaps and unpaid benefits.

Authorities say the measure is part of efforts to stabilise the system.

The union, however, insists that talks with the government are still ongoing and no final deal has been reached. It described reports of a concluded agreement as misleading and unacceptable.

According to the union, the offer does not reflect what was discussed during negotiations. It warned that any outcome below expectations would be rejected.

The union, alongside the Non-Academic Staff Union, has maintained its April 30 deadline for concluding talks. Failure to meet the deadline could lead to an indefinite nationwide strike.
