A fresh twist has hit the African Democratic Congress as former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, rejected claims of his suspension alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and others.

The development followed an announcement by a faction in Adamawa State, where Raji Zumo declared their suspension during a press briefing. Lawal, who serves as the party’s North-East Vice Chairman, dismissed the move outright.
He described the action as baseless and lacking authority, insisting that those behind it had no recognised standing in the party.
Reacting to the development, he said, “If some people take heavy Indian hemp, they can claim to be President of Nigeria, so don’t consider them as normal people. Indian hemp is at duty.”

He also questioned Zumo’s legitimacy within the party structure.
The Adamawa State chairman of the ADC, Shehu Yohanna, also disowned the suspension, stating that Zumo had long exited the party.
He maintained that the announcement had no backing and accused the faction of creating confusion.
Yohanna added that Zumo’s sudden reappearance online did not grant him the authority to speak for the party or take disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, the crisis deepened as a state High Court in Yola halted the party’s planned congresses pending the outcome of a legal dispute.
The case, filed by Yohanna over his alleged exclusion, has been adjourned for further hearing.
The ADC in Adamawa has remained divided into multiple factions, with internal battles continuing to shape its political future.
