Sokoto PDP Rejects Abuja Convention
In Sokoto State, the Peoples Democratic Party chapter has said it will not attend the national convention planned in Abuja by a faction linked to Nyesom Wike.
The state chapter said it is staying neutral amid the party’s internal crisis.
The position was made known by Hassan Sanyinawal, who said the chapter does not recognise any faction.
He added that the same stance was taken during the earlier convention held in Ibadan.
The decision comes as divisions continue within the PDP, with rival groups laying claim to leadership and organising separate activities.
The crisis has lingered since disputes over the party’s leadership and the 2025 convention, which was later voided by a court.
Different blocs, including one backed by Wike and another loyal to the former leadership, have continued moves to strengthen control.
This has widened the gap within the party despite calls for unity.
Observers say the ongoing dispute could affect the party’s position as a major opposition force ahead of future elections if a resolution is not reached soon.
