Health Workers Abducted in Night Raid At Ondo

In Akure, suspected gunmen stormed a public health centre in the early hours of Saturday and abducted six health workers on duty.

The attackers reportedly arrived around 2:00 a.m., forced their way into the facility, and took the victims away in a waiting vehicle, leaving the area in panic.

Witnesses said the assailants acted quickly, rounding up staff, including interns, before fleeing.

A patient who escaped said, “They came in a big bus and entered the hospital forcefully. Before anyone could react, they gathered all the staff on duty and marched them outside.

They took about six of them away.”

Reports later indicated that some victims regained freedom after being forced to transfer money.

The state security outfit, Amotekun, said three health workers and two other victims were rescued during operations, while efforts continued to secure the remaining victims.

However, the Nigeria Police Force gave a different account, describing the incident as a robbery.

Police said the attackers dispossessed victims of valuables and abandoned them before fleeing, adding that investigations and security operations have been intensified across the state.
