Uber, Bolt And Others Begin Strike

Drivers operating on ride-hailing platforms including Uber, Bolt and inDrive have begun a three-day strike in Lagos State and Ogun State, warning passengers to expect difficulty getting rides.

The protest started on March 16 and is expected to last until March 18. Drivers say the action is aimed at pushing the ride-hailing companies to reduce commissions and create what they describe as a fairer partnership with drivers.

Drivers insist they are demanding lower commissions and better working conditions after complaining about declining earnings.

The strike is being coordinated by the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria, which says thousands of drivers have joined the shutdown.

Transport disruption is expected in several parts of Lagos and neighbouring communities in Ogun, where many commuters rely on ride-hailing services for daily movement.

Residents have been advised to plan trips earlier, consider alternatives such as the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit, and expect longer waiting times when requesting rides.
