Fear Grows After New Benue Killings
At least 16 people lost their lives after suspected herders launched fresh attacks on Tyungu Jam and Mbaav communities in Yaav and Mbadura council wards of Kwande Local Government Area in Benue State.
The violence was reported to have taken place on Thursday, March 5, 2026, leaving several others missing.
Residents said the assault happened early in the morning, forcing men, women, children, and the elderly to flee in different directions in search of safety.
Homes were left under threat as panic spread through the communities near the busy Jato Aka market.
The attack added to growing fears in the area as locals reported that no immediate security presence arrived when the violence began.
Families were scattered while the affected communities struggled to cope with the sudden wave of bloodshed.
Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the killings and described the incident as cruel and unacceptable.
He expressed sympathy to the victims’ families and directed security agencies to intensify efforts to arrest those responsible and prevent further attacks.
