Iyabi Obasanjo Courts Ogun Women For 2027

Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has begun rallying support among women’s groups and labour leaders in Abeokuta for her 2027 governorship bid in Ogun State.

The meeting, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, brought together professional associations, civil society actors, and artisans to discuss inclusive governance and continuity-driven policies.

Obasanjo outlined plans to sustain development projects in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and the economy while prioritising women, youth, and vulnerable groups.

She stressed that governance should build on previous progress rather than restarting with each administration and promised an open, accountable government focused on measurable outcomes.

She encouraged women to play active roles in shaping democratic culture, urging them to participate in issue-based politics and peaceful electoral processes.

The former senator also confirmed her intention to seek the All Progressives Congress ticket and said her administration would strengthen industrialisation, agriculture, and tourism to boost economic growth.

Returning to active politics after about 15 years abroad, Obasanjo highlighted Ogun State’s potential as an industrial and agricultural hub close to Lagos and export routes.

She previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health and represented Ogun Central in the Senate before relocating to the United States.
