The Onitsha North Local Government has begun pulling down unauthorised structures at the Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State.

The demolition affects structures at Park 1, Park 2 and Park 3, where traders had earlier been served notices to vacate.
According to the council, an initial 14-day notice expired in mid-February and was later extended by another two weeks at the traders’ request, ending on February 28.
With the grace period over, enforcement began on March 1.
Authorities urged affected occupants to remove their belongings before the operation.
The Main Market, one of the largest in the South-East, has long struggled with congestion and unapproved developments, prompting repeated calls for stricter regulation.
