The appeal came during a telephone discussion between both leaders as concerns grow over rising instability across the corridor.

The request formed part of wider security talks between Nigeria and Germany. The presidency said the two leaders also expressed worry over the situation in the Sahel region.

President Tinubu called for the supply of used helicopters to help in intelligence reconnaissance in the region.

He noted that the Sahel corridor is bad and needs our support. Intelligence support reconnaissance is needed.

During the call, attention also shifted to Nigeria’s electricity sector, particularly the Presidential Power Initiative.

Tinubu sought support to improve power transmission, while Merz indicated that Siemens would provide technical assistance and Deutsche Bank would be open to financing the project.

Both sides further explored cooperation in railway development, creative arts and skills training.

Germany is eagerly awaiting the arrival of Nigeria’s new ambassador to Germany.

The conversation, which lasted from 2.01 pm to about 2.10 pm, also touched on cultural ties, including discussions around establishing the Great Museum of African Arts.
