Air Force Officer Linked To Impeachment Plot Detained

A Nigerian Air Force officer, Noel Godday Zuzu, has been detained by the Defence Intelligence Agency over an alleged plan to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.

The case drew wider attention after security operatives raided the Abuja home of former Bayelsa State governor and ex-minister, Timipre Sylva.
Sylva later confirmed the visit but denied any link to the matter, saying efforts to connect him to the case were politically motivated.

Military sources said Zuzu is from Bayelsa State and is related to the former governor. “He is a relative of Sylva, yes, that former Bayelsa State governor said to be a major financier.
I think he’s his nephew, but I’m not sure of that, but they are relatives,” a source disclosed. Zuzu, who was attached to 053 HQ NAF Camp Abuja before his arrest, is a graduate of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.
Zuzu is listed among 36 detainees drawn from the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Police.
Families of some of those held have raised concerns about incommunicado detention and lack of access to lawyers.
Although authorities initially denied any coup plot, a recent Defence Headquarters statement confirmed that attempts to overthrow the government were among the allegations under investigation.
