Petrol prices rose across Nigeria after Dangote Petroleum Refinery reviewed its rates following the end of the festive season, signalling a return to normal market pricing.

The change affects fuel costs at major outlets linked to the refinery.
The adjustment came from the refinery, which raised the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit from N699 per litre to N799 per litre.

This move immediately affected pump prices, especially at MRS filling stations, where petrol now sells for about N839 per litre nationwide.

The increase followed the conclusion of temporary measures introduced during the holiday period. The refinery explained that those steps were meant to ease pressure on consumers at a time of heavy spending and were never intended to be permanent.

The company noted that similar interventions had been made in previous years. In 2024, it absorbed logistics costs to reduce fuel prices, while in 2025 it lowered rates again to steady the market and make petrol more affordable during celebrations.

Despite these efforts, the refinery raised concerns that many filling stations failed to pass on the reduced prices to motorists.

It said this reduced the impact of the intervention but reaffirmed its commitment to stable supply, market balance, and long-term energy security for Nigeria.
