The action was carried out through the state Ministry of Health as part of efforts to protect patients and restore trust in medical services.

The closures affected no fewer than 54 health facilities spread across different parts of Anambra State. Officials said the facilities were operating in ways that violated basic professional rules expected in the health sector.

The enforcement took place over a three-year period, beginning in January 2023 and running through December 2025. During this time, inspection teams reportedly visited hospitals, clinics, and other medical centres to assess their operations.

Health authorities explained that the decision to seal the facilities followed repeated findings of unprofessional conduct. These included practices considered unsafe for patients and actions that failed to meet approved medical guidelines.

The state government said the measure was taken to safeguard public health and send a clear message that standards in the health sector would be enforced. Residents were encouraged to seek care only from properly registered and approved facilities.
