Corps members serving in Kogi State say they were drawn into a political gathering without their consent after being invited to what was presented as a routine youth programme.

The event later turned out to be a rally in support of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Ododo.
The incident happened on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja.

Corps members said they received an official circular directing them to attend a general youth meeting, with instructions to appear in mufti and arrive early. No political activity was mentioned in the notice.
Several said they felt uncomfortable as they were surrounded by campaign activities they had not agreed to take part in.
Following backlash online, NYSC officials and the Kogi State Government issued a statement explaining that the programme was organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and linked to a government anniversary event.
Despite this, many corps members remain dissatisfied and have called on the NYSC leadership to investigate the matter and protect the scheme from being drawn into partisan politics.
