INEC Warns Against Fake 2027 Election Timetable
The Independent National Electoral Commission has raised the alarm over a fake report circulating online that claims the timetable for the 2027 general elections has already been released.
INEC said it has not announced any dates, schedules, or activities connected to the 2027 polls, insisting that the circulating material was entirely made up.
According to the commission, the false report contains imagined timelines for elections, party primaries, and campaign periods that have no link to its plans. INEC explained that such claims do not reflect its position or preparations in any form.
The electoral body reminded Nigerians, political parties, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to depend only on its verified platforms for accurate information.
These include its official website, recognised social media pages, and authorised press statements released at the appropriate time.
INEC also pointed out that it operates strictly within the law, which clearly states when election notices should be published. While dismissing the fake timetable, the commission noted that it is currently focused on distributing permanent voter cards ahead of the February Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
