Two members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have called for an immediate pause in the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, warning that the move could deepen the state’s political crisis.

The appeal came on Monday in Rivers State, where the lawmakers addressed the public amid rising tension within the assembly over plans to remove the governor from office.
The appeal was made by Sylvanus Nwankwo, who represents Omuma constituency, and Peter Abbey from Degema constituency, both urging their colleagues to reconsider the impeachment path and seek a peaceful resolution instead.

They said the situation, while serious, should be handled with restraint and understanding, noting that elders and leaders within and outside the state have made repeated calls for leniency and dialogue rather than drastic action.
The lawmakers added that while constitutional issues have been raised, the governor also has a responsibility to avoid further breaches, stressing that mutual restraint could help restore calm and lead to an amicable settlement for the good of Rivers State.
