President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stepped in again to calm the growing rift between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The intervention comes as tensions rise over a renewed impeachment move against the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The latest move followed reports that Tinubu summoned Wike for a meeting abroad while Fubara also travelled out of the country to meet the President.

The intervention is linked to fresh impeachment proceedings started by the Rivers State House of Assembly, which is widely seen as loyal to Wike.
The impeachment notice lists several allegations against Fubara, including the demolition of the Assembly complex, spending outside the budget, refusal to release funds to the legislature, and failure to comply with court rulings. His deputy was also accused of unlawful spending and obstructing legislative duties.

Concerns are growing that the standoff could threaten peace and stability in the oil-rich state. Party leaders and elder statesmen are urging restraint, warning that prolonged conflict could harm national interests, deepen political divisions, and destabilise Rivers State if not resolved quickly.
