Katung, who represents Kaduna South in the Senate, said his move was aimed at strengthening the ruling party and helping it win future elections, adding that the APC has grown into a broad platform that welcomes people from different backgrounds.
He linked his decision to the policies and projects of President Bola Tinubu, saying developments in Kaduna South influenced his choice and calling on residents and political leaders in the zone to unite under the APC for growth and stability.

In a related development in Sokoto State, former senator and diplomat Abdallah Wali, a close associate of ex-governor Aminu Tambuwal, resigned from the PDP after more than 20 years with the party.
Wali announced his exit in a letter dated December 31, 2025, thanking the PDP for past opportunities but did not reveal his next political step, leaving speculation over whether he plans to join another party or step back from partisan politics.
