Tension rose in Osun State on Friday as the police warned politicians against disrupting the planned resumption of local government workers across the state, following intelligence reports of moves to cause unrest at council secretariats.

The Osun State Police Command said it uncovered plans by some political actors to interfere with the return of workers, stressing that such actions threaten public order and will be firmly resisted.
The warning came ahead of the January 5 resumption announced by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees after nearly 11 months of strike, a move expected to restore basic council activities statewide.
Police authorities explained that officers have been deployed to all council secretariats to secure workers and prevent harassment, illegal occupation, or intimidation as staff return to duty.

The command made it clear that only verified local government employees are allowed near the secretariats, adding that non-staff found loitering around the premises would be treated as security threats.
The police assured residents that measures are in place to maintain peace, protect lives and property, and ensure that the resumption of local government work takes place without disruption.
