The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed claims by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed that he is being targeted through political influence, saying its investigation has nothing to do with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The anti-graft agency spoke on Friday after the governor accused federal authorities and political rivals of using state institutions against him. EFCC said the allegation was baseless and misleading.

According to the Commission, it operates as an independent body created to fight financial crimes and does not take instructions from politicians or public office holders. It said no individual has the power to direct its investigations.
EFCC explained that the issues involving some Bauchi State officials are already before the court and are based on evidence gathered during investigations, not political pressure or vendetta.

The agency also recalled that Bala Mohammed had faced money laundering charges before becoming governor and said only constitutional immunity paused the case, not interference from any political figure.
EFCC advised the governor to focus on governing Bauchi State and allow the Commission to carry out its lawful duties of cleaning up Nigeria’s financial system without distractions.
