The Nigeria Police Force has paused the enforcement of tinted glass permits across the country following a court order that stopped the policy from taking effect.

The decision comes after a Federal High Court fixed January 20, 2026, to hear arguments on the matter.
The issue began in December when the police announced plans to resume nationwide checks on vehicles with tinted windows from January 2, 2026. The force said the move was part of its duty to improve safety and security.

Days later, a court issued an interim order stopping the enforcement after a suit was filed against the policy. The order directed the police to suspend action until the case is fully heard or the order is lifted.
In response, the police entered an appearance in court and applied for the interim order to be set aside. The force said it acted within the law and respected the authority of the court while pursuing its position.

Following the court’s decision to adjourn the case to January 20, the police confirmed that all enforcement related to tinted glass permits has been placed on hold nationwide. The suspension will remain until the court gives further direction.
The Inspector General of Police restated the force’s commitment to the rule of law and assured Nigerians that security efforts would continue through lawful and intelligence-based methods. The police said fresh updates would be shared after the court’s ruling.
