Fayose Says That US Airstrike Is About Saving Nigeria Not Religion

Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has weighed in on the recent United States airstrikes against terrorist groups in Nigeria, saying the action is about protecting the country and not about religion.

He spoke on the issue during a TVC programme, reacting to debates that followed the strikes on ISIS-linked camps in parts of northern Nigeria.
Fayose said the main issue is Nigeria’s safety, noting that no country can survive or function without security. He explained that this is why governments spend heavily on security every year, because the lives of citizens come first.

He welcomed the military action against the terrorists, saying armed groups have denied many Nigerians peace for too long. According to him, any step that weakens such groups is good for the country, especially if civilians are not harmed.
